The superb "Côte d’Opale" is about 30 minutes away, where you’ll discover wide sandy beaches and fishing villages with fish stalls and fish restaurants all along the coast. |
| | | Boufflers is situated between the two market towns of Auxi-le-Château and Crécy-en-Ponthieu. To the north is the larger town of Hesdin, to the south is Abbeville - and the beautiful city of Amiens, with its canals and cathedral, is less than an hour away. Paris can be visited easily in a day, as can Belgium. | | ![Auxi-le-Château : memorial [click to enlarge] Auxi-le-Château : memorial [click to enlarge]](http://www.seven-valleys-holidays.com/sites/letsites/clients/crjarvis/photos/crjarvis_040_.jpg) |

Historic sites from the two world wars - including the battlefields of the Somme and the Menin Gate memorial - are an easy drive away. |
| | | Sporting activities, such as canoeing and horse riding, are available locally and there are several excellent golf courses nearby. In spring, the beach at Berck hosts an annual kite-flying competition - and sand yachting is possible all year round. If all this sounds too energetic, we recommend a visit to the local bird sanctuaries or a walk through the fields or down to the river. | | ![Boufflers : surrounding countryside [click to enlarge] Boufflers : surrounding countryside [click to enlarge]](http://www.seven-valleys-holidays.com/sites/letsites/clients/crjarvis/photos/crjarvis_041_.jpg) |

A little history...
The origins of Boufflers can be traced back to prehistoric times following the discovery of prehistoric relics in the area.
Towards the end of the 15th century, Maréchal de Lohéac captured Boufflers' château and completely destroyed it. A new château was subsequently built on the original foundations.

Directions to Boufflers from Calais |
| | - Follow signs for the A16 towards Boulogne. (If you are using the Eurotunnel, you will pass an "Elf" petrol station on your left as you exit the Eurotunnel terminus. Just after that, the road splits. The right-hand lane is signposted for Paris and the left for Boulogne. Take the left. This brings you directly onto the A16.)
- Notice that the junctions decrease from number 10. You’ll think to yourself, "That’s not right because I need junction 24", but don’t worry! At Boulogne, the A16 turns into a "péage" and the junction numbers start again from 31!
- At the péage entrance, take a ticket (there are special lanes marked for British cars, so you don’t have to lean across the passenger seat), and continue to junction 24, which is signposted to "Crécy". Just a word of caution: there are no countdown markers to any of the junctions, so when it signposts the turn off, that’s it! Pay the toll at the toll booth (about 4.60€). They should take a credit card, but don’t hold me to it!
- You then come to a roundabout - take the first turning to the right (N1). This road takes you through a village called Bernay-en-Ponthieu.
- As you leave Bernay, the road goes up a hill and you will see a signpost on the right indicating "Regnière-E". As you get to the turning, it indicates "Crécy". Take this turning. It leads immediately to a T-junction where you turn right.
- You are now on the D938. You will go through the villages of Regnière-Ecluse (nice château!), Machy and Machiel. The road then leads into Crécy-en-Ponthieu.
- Keep on this road and as you exit Crécy, there is a fork. Take the left - you have priority! Stay on the D938.
- Eventually you will come to a major road - the D928 - and you will know you are at the correct crossroads because a building called the "Cabine de Bambou" will be on your right. At this junction, turn left.
- The road then goes down a hill entering the village of Le Boisle and, just as the road swings to the left, you will see a turning to the right signposted "Boufflers 2.5km". Take this turning to the right.
- Follow this road into Boufflers. Just before you exit the village, you will find number 36 on your right. Enter into the courtyard and relax - you’ve made it!!!
The total travel time should be about 1 hour 10 minutes.
